PINEHURST, NC. JORDAN FINISHES IN 7th PLACE FOR THE MATCH PLAY PART AT THE NORTH AND SOUTH MAKING ONE OF THE HARDEST CUTS IN WOMEN’S GOLF. (Click for pics and more).

For those that were following, today was a true nail biter. B came out like gangbusters paring the first hole then 🐥ing 2&3 to go to -2, four under for the tournament, and briefly occupying first place. Smiles all around, then the wheels came off the wagon and she bogeyed the next 3 holes. Suddenly from first place, the cut line was rapidly approaching at warp speed threatening to derail what up to then had been a picture perfect tournament.

Saying that this is one of the hardest cuts in Women’s golf is no exaggeration. Only 27% of the field made the cut. Of 116 who started, only 32 will continue on tomorrow. Jordan bested 92 of the top amateurs playing the game. In comparison, for the US Women’s Open, 156 start and 64 make the cut, 40% which is 50% more then made the cut at Pinehurst this week.

Jordan finished the stroke play portion of the tournament today in an 8 way tie for 7th place. Tomorrow is a fresh start for everyone. The format changes to what is called match play.

For those who are not golfers, in match play each player plays heads up with another single player and it is scored by the hole rather then total strokes. Each hole is for one point and whoever wins more holes in the round advances and the other player gets knocked out. It is one on one combat, winner takes all, loser goes home. The way the brackets are set up is the player in first place will play the player in last In this case, number 1 will play number 32, Second place, will play second to last or number 31 and so on until number 16 plays number 17. That is the entire day tomorrow and by tomorrow evening the 32 will be down to the Sweet 16.

Tomorrow night there will be a banquet for those 16 gladiators who survive the day. The other 16 go home. On Friday morning, there will be a new bracket; Number 1 at that point will play the number 16, 2 plays 14 etc. After that round, 8 more go home.

Friday afternoon, those still standing will play the quarter finals. Again, number 1 plays number 8, 2 plays 7 and so on. By the end of the day Friday, 4 more get on the road and only 4 will remain.

On Saturday morning the two semi-finals will be played to determine who will play the last and final round for the championship Saturday afternoon. That round will be Live-Streamed for the world to watch.

SuperMom shared the following with B’s team in the play by play:

Grades

Driver A plus

Woods B

Irons B-

Putter B

Jordan “Chunked” 3 shots which caused all of the trouble. Caddy Brad did a masterful job of keeping Jordan focused and calm. He told SuperMom that Jordan did not eat enough during the marathon 5 hour round in 105 degree brutal North Carolina heat. That will not happen going forward. B had 6 bogeys today but countered those with 5 brilliant 🐥’s following the 4 she drained yesterday for a total of 9 over the first 36 holes meaning she 🐥 ied a full 25% of all of the holes she played. Today she 🐥ied 3 out of 4 par 3’s.

T times for tomorrow have not yet been released but they will happen between 7 and 12:20. We will do a follow up post with the time and who her opponent will be when it gets released.

That’s all for now. Today was a very exciting day for Jordan and a major milestone in her young career. She is having a burger now as this is written, getting re-hydrated and going through the round hole by hole with Coach Carl. There are so many of you who have helped her get to this spot and Julie and I thank you from the bottom of our hearts. She would truly not be here without each and every one of you who are following. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
