ORLANDO, FL. CHAMPION!! Jordan dominates at Rio tying her all time low score of -6. (Click for details and lots of pics).

The “Platter” as coined by our friend Yirong Zheng

This was a very good day for The B. She started the day with a 🐥on hole number one. Two and three were pars. Four was her only bogey on the day. Five was a 🐥, Six a par, seven another 🐥. Eight and nine were both pars. At that point in the tournament, the turn, Jordan held only a single stroke lead over the girl in second place and the momentum did not seem to be on her side. Both she and the other girl both 🐥10. The other girl had a 6 inch tap in, Jordan would drain a 14 footer and that one shot broke the game wide open. B would par 11 & 12, 🐥13, par 14, then 🐥 both 15 & 16 and par 17 & 18. In total, she had 1 bogey, 10 pars, and a career best 7 🐥’s. Her total score for 36 holes of golf was 138, 72-66.

As good as the round was, all golfers do the “If ONLY” and there are some things that need to be pointed out….On 1, the ball rolled over the edge of the hole for what “COULD” have easily been an eagle. On 7, a par 3, the ball rolled to 4 inches of the hole of what all watching thought was going to be an ACE (hole in one). So close actually that people were cheering and celebrating. On 16, a par 5, B came within 9 feet of hitting the green on her second shot. Her third, a chip, squarely hit the flag but refused to drop on what “COULD” have been another eagle. Jordan missed 3 putts from inside of 5 feet that all “COULD” have been birdies. She chipped in a 🐥on 13 with her putter from the fringe. She hit an astounding 17 greens in regulation. She twice was behind a tree (one of them on a root) and parred one of them, the other, her only bogey.

Unquestionably the best round of golf Jordan has ever played. Though the strength of the field was not very high, the difficulty of the course was high. In fact, it was rated a 74 which means that if a player was to shoot par, it would be -2 differential. Jordan’s six under par will be recorded as a -8 in terms of differential. To try to put this in perspective, the next best recorded score in the tournament on the girls side was +1 or 7 strokes behind Jordan. On the boys side, +5, 11 strokes behind her. The Tournament director commented during the awards ceremony that “This was the lowest recorded score on the Hurricane Tour in a very very long time.”

This tournament actually carried quite a bit of risk for Jordan. She was expected to win and win by a lot. Nobody was surprised that she won, but if she had lost, it would have been a very big upset. Coach Carl wanted her to play something before her next major qualifier so that she could finally try out all of the new stuff they have worked on during the off season now that all of the pressure of school and AP exams are behind her. Golf is a mental game above all else. No matter how much skill one has, they need to first be convinced that they CAN win and today, win she did.

On Thursday, Jordan and SuperMom along with Uncle David will travel to Gainsville to The University of Florida to play her qualifier for the US Girls Junior Championship. Last year she was a second alternate. This is USGA event and the tournament is basically the US Junior Am which will be played at the Atlanta Athletic Club in John’s Creek GA July 14th-19th. There are qualifiers like the one B is playing all over the country and internationally to get to the 156 competitors who will earn a spot. To get into a qualifier, you have to have a handicap of no more than 5.4 and be under 19 years of age on the day the tournament begins. Over 1500 girls will attempt to get in. David Sirkin will again be on the bag for Jordan and she is incredibly grateful that he as agreed to do so. It is a big time commitment and physically extremely taxing to do so. As we have said for a very long time, it takes a village and so many have done so much for Jordan, though few have gone to the lengths that David has. A big thank you to David’s wife Juliet who encourages his involvement and never complains.

That’s all for now. We will be back on Thursday night to share the link to the live leaderboard for those that want to follow. This is a one round qualifier. They have not yet announced how many they will take from this qualifier but the guess is two, three at most so B will have to battle to earn it. There will be no rest for the weary as B will leave for Punta Gorda on Saturday afternoon for what may be her very last AJGA.
