Jordan did not qualify today for the US Woman’s Amateur.

Obviously she is disappointed. She worked hard on this course over the past few days and she pushes every single day to be better and she is markedly better then she was a year ago. With all of that said, the expectation that she would earn her way into the most prestigious woman’s amateur tournament on the planet at age 17 was a bit high. Great experience and lots of things to explain about this one.

We try not to sugar coat stuff here on Tyrannosaurus B but sometimes an explanation is required and this is one of those time. First, this course was extremely long, 6200 yards. For perspective, the NY High School State Championship was played from 5400. Division 1 golf is about 6000, and the LPGA plays from 6000-6400. It had rained for 14 straight hours ending at 8am this morning. This means that the ground was soft and muddy so balls just landed and plugged/stopped on a dime. There was absolutely NO roll, not on the fairways, not on the greens, nowhere. The entire 6200 yards played was all carry. For the golfers among you, you know this was a Herculean task to get around the course that way. The approach shots were 180-205. All had to be hit with long clubs and getting anywhere near the holes is a home run from those distances with a wood in your hands. Those with the earliest T times like Jordan’s were terribly disadvantaged by this as the sun started to dry the course out so those later did get more roll but we don’t cry over spilt milk as Jordan will be the beneficiary of something like that in the future. As the saying goes, “The only unfair advantage is the one you don’t have.”

Jordan ended the day tied for 24th place out of 76 who began. 10 players did not finish the round because of how difficult it was. This field was made up of mainly Division One College players who are 21-23 years old and battle hardened with experience. B bested two thirds of them. In the end she shot a +3 with 2 🐥’s and 5 bogeys. How hard was the course? It was rated 79.4 and it was a par 71. This means that if you shot 79, you were actually a -.4. Jordan’s 74 was a -5.4 differential, the equivalent of better than 5 under par.

In the end, Jordan played ok, not the best round she ever played, but overall a pretty good outing for the 17 year old. No 3 putts, no double bogeys, just steady golf from far far away. Having Sarah Zheng on the bag was fantastic for Jordan. She said Sarah was the difference maker on two holes that she may have completely blown up if not for Z’s council and calm easy demeanor. If Z is willing, this will be the first of many times she will be Jordan’s co-pilot. Sarah is an accomplished player in her own right starting for Carleton College who also now teaches in her spare time. Not to mention she is also one of Jordan’s closest friends. We are grateful for Sarah’s involvement today.

On Saturday SuperMom will take Jordan to SKANEATELES CC in the town that bears its name for the NY Woman’s Amateur that takes place July 15-16. It will be a 54 hole tournament contested over two days. 36 holes on Monday and 18 on Tuesday. The winner gets a spot at the US Woman’s Am (yup, the same one that she did not qualify for today), so a second bite at the apple per se.

That’s all for now. B is back in Bedford. We will be back the night before the first round to give you t-times and a link to a leaderboard if one exists plus any pics SuperMom sends to the editorial staff. Thank you for all of the love and support everyday.

  1. How do you do it? You work so hard on your game. You never give up. From Dads descriptions of your game you fight hard and get disappointed but you never give up. On to the next course…. The next game…. The next victory. I know without a doubt there will be so many victories ahead for you. I know because off you go once more to fight for your victory. You are such an amazing young woman. I will be cheering for your next game…I have a good feeling about it. Keep moving forward and remember… enjoy your journey everyday. 😘🌈👍❤️Nana Susan
