After a bit of a rough start, Jordan clawed her way back to end the day at even par after the first 18 at Canebrake. (Click for pics and more).

As usual, Jordan did not make it easy on her supporters as she opened today’s tournament with a bogey on hole one. On hole two, a par five, she barely saved par after her second shot ended up in the sand. She parred 3 & 4, then bogeyed 5 to go to 2 over through just the first 5 holes.

She would go on to par the rest of the side due to her incredible putting. You may recall that her putter has been a constant source of frustration for her and was certainly her nemesis in Bermuda. To Carl’s credit, this has been a huge focus since the middle of January when she got back and the payoff was today’s masterful display. Hard to explain quite how good it was to the non-golfers who are reading, but she only hit 3 greens in regulation on the front and still managed to only be +2 for the side with zero birdies.

The back 9 is where B roared back to life. On 10, she drained another 13 footer to save par. On 11, she would sink one from 22 feet to card her first 🐥 of the day to go to +1. Twelve, a par 5 was a fairly routine par. On 13, a par three, she sunk her second 🐥 to get back to even. 14 & 15 were both pars that missed being birdies by mere inches, both tap in pars. On 16 she cracked the longest drive of the day, almost 280 according to Carl. On 17, a par 4, she bogeyed the hole with her only 3 putt of the day. This was the first bogey since the 5th hole and would bring her back to +1 on the day. B refused to end the day in the black and 🐥’d 18, her third one of the back nine to end the match at even.

This field is extremely strong. Actually, the strongest that Jordan has ever faced with the exception of last year’s Junior World at Torrey Pines. The rating of the course is a 75 which means that par is a -3 differential. The leaders after day one are tied at -5. Jordan is in a 4 way tie for 14th place after this opening round. There is a still plenty of golf to play and B is certainly not out of it. After a quick bite of lunch Jordan and Carl spent two hours working through the areas that held her back today (long Irons and wedges) and Jordan is excited to get back to it tomorrow.

In summary, at the end of the day, Jordan did not miss a single fairway, hit only 6 greens, and had the putting round of her life.

Tomorrow her T time will be at 8:20 local, 9:20 EST.

That’s all for now. Thank you for all of the encouragement. Be back tomorrow with the highlights.
