SHE DID IT! Jordan qualified today for the AJGA UHY Junior at Burning Tree. (Click for details).

She never does anything the easy way and today was no different. Jordan started by missing a birdie putt on hole number 1 and had to settle for par. On 2, she double bogeyed then was able to par 3. On four, she hit a 15 footer off of the fringe for her first birdie. She then went on to bogey 5,6,& 7 to get to plus 4. She birdied 8, and followed it up with a bogey on 9 to finish the side at a plus four 40. She would go into the back 9 in 12th place out of 24 needing to finish in the top 3 to get a spot in the tournament. At that point, her mother was planning how she was going to spend the rest of the week without Jordan’s golf commitments, but The B had other plans….

She parred 10, birdied 11 & 12, & 15 to finish the side at a personal best -1 (one under par) for the back 9. She was -2 going into 18 where she missed a short putt to bogey the hole. Had she made it, she would have been in solo second place at 74 but she needed to stress everyone and ended in a three way tie for 2nd place at 75. The problem, of course, is that there were only 3 spots available for the tournament from the qualifier and now she was headed into sudden death extra holes where three girls would fight it out for the two remaining spots.

All three parred 1,2,&3. On hole 4, a par 5, Jordan had her shot of the day chipping from 130 yards out blindly with an outcropping of rocks and overhead tree branches to within 5 inches of the cup on her 3rd shot leaving her a tap in for a birdie, her 6th of the day to secure her spot and 2nd place for the qualifier. Of her two competitors, one carded a par, and one a bogey to end the playoff. All of the hard work that she has put in and the incredible coaching from Jerry & Carl paid off today big time. She was able to grind it out and finish beautifully.

When the dust had settled, Jordan had bested 23 of 24 golfers, age 18 and under from all over the country (as far away as California) who had all come to try to earn a spot in this weeks tournament. Julies ideas of a week without golf will have to be put off.

T time tomorrow is 11:00 for the first day of the tournament. Link to the live leaderboard is below if you want to follow.
