PALO ALTO, CA. Brilliant opening round for Jordan at the Fortinet Stanford Invitational including 5 πŸ₯’s put her in a seven way tie for 5th place after day one.

The very best junior golfers in the world are in Stanford this weekend and Jordan proved today that she has earned the right to play in their sandbox. Lets take you right to the action:

Jordan opened on hole 10 with a πŸ₯, followed up with a πŸ₯on the second hole (11), and lipped out on 12 for par what would have been a third birdie. Her 4th hole was a nice drive followed by a shot into the green side bunker. She came out to 3 feet and saved par with a beautiful 1 putt for par. 5th hole was a bogey. 6th was a par. 7 was trouble….on the par 5 she hit a tree on the third shot and the 4th was short of the green. 5th shot, a 20 yd chip to 5 feet. missed putt for a double bogey. Hole 8, standard par. 9 was also a par putting her at +1 through 9.

1 & 2 were pars. 3, a 166 yard par 3 she hit to 9 inches. If there had been even a little roll it would have been an ace (that’s a hole in one for the uninitiated) and she had to settle for a πŸ₯. Holes 4 & 5, both pars. Hole 6 was a 10 foot putt for πŸ₯. Hole 7, another 8 foot putt to save par. Hole 8, a par 3 she made a 15 footer for another πŸ₯ putting her at -2. Unfortunately she got a bad break on on 18 where she chipped on, hit a rock, and had to settle for a bogey. Back 9 was 2 under par allowing her to finish in red numbers with a -1 on the day.

To summarize, B had 1 double bogey, 2 bogeys, 10 pars, & 5 πŸ₯’s. She hit 16 of 18 fairways. She had 27 total putts. A pretty incredible round.

Today’s Scorecard

Coach Carl gave B a stern talking to yesterday that ended with one command, β€œDo not allow the first day to get away from you. This group is way too good. There is no coming back from a bad opening round.” She took this to heart and played like a warrior never losing focus and playing her game. She had some tough breaks, but a number of things also broke her way. This tournament still has 2 rounds to play and every one of these players is a massively accomplished athlete, many of whom will forgo college and try to go pro. At the Q&A with professional super star Rose Zhang who is hosting the tournament she made the comment, β€œYou are all here because you are best in the world.”

This is a tough field. +4 today put you in a tie for 42nd place. Everyone is separated by mere strokes which means that Jordan will have to string together another 36 holes of incredible golf to finish in the top 10 or better but today’s play shows that she is capable.

After the round B did some chipping, attended the Q&A with Rose, then had a shower, watched more Yellowstone and had a great dinner of leftovers with Dad and uncle David from last night and some Gluten free dumplings from a restaurant called Bao. She hit the pillow by 8 and will T off tomorrow from hole 1 at 9am, leaving the house by 7:15 with her PBJ with the crusts cut off.

Thats all for now. A big thank you once again for all of the support for Jordan. Be back tomorrow night to report on the day.
