For the third time in less than 14 days Jordan takes 2nd place honors. This time at the NY Regional Championship for the Notah Begay. (Click for Pics and details).

Golf is different than many other sports in that many of the best players do not win very often so where you finish actually matters. In majors tournaments there are often 150 extremely talented individuals (from the qualifiers that might have started at 2000) and only one is going to be champion. There are many of the top 20 players who have not won a tournament in years but have many top 10 finishes and top 5 finishes.

For B’s tournament this past week, it was the Regional final to earn a spot in the Notah Begay National Tournament in November. From over a dozen local qualifiers, and exemptions (several hundred players) came these final 11 girls from 5 different states and Bermuda to fight for this one single spot to go to the finals and Jordan beat all but one taking second place and again, first alternate position for a major tournament.

She fought a very hard battle starting day two in second place 4 strokes behind the leader. After 6 holes, she was actually tied with the leader but could not hold it. In the end, she finished the day tied for the low round of the day but 3 strokes behind the leader. She had 4🐥’s. She would shoot +2 both days on a difficult course. To answer the question everyone is asking, “What are her chances of getting in?” We are told it is about 20%. So keep your fingers crossed and if you happen to know Notah Begay please put in a good word for her.

The other framed thing they gave to the 2nd and 3rd place finishers was an invitation to a tournament in January of all of the 1st and second alternates from all over the country. From this tournament the top 6 will advance to the 2024 National Final. This tournament will be in Florida about an hour from where Jordan trains in the winter.

In our “It Takes a village section” we need to give a big thank you to Gerry Costello, a friend of Michael Wolff who is a member of Huntington Crescent where the tournament was held and invited Jordan to play a round with him this past Friday where she was able to see the course and he as a long time member was able to guide her through the ins and outs of each hole, showing her where to be and more importantly where NOT to be. This insight was instrumental for Jordan and she sincerely appreciates the time that Gerry put in to helping her. We are proud to call Gerry our friend now as well.

Gerry and the B on an ominous Friday afternoon at the magnificent Hunting Crescent Club

Jordan finished in Long Island on Wednesday afternoon and SuperMom (who we need to acknowledge and thank for all of these great photos) drove her back to Bedford. Twelve hours later (5:30am on Thursday) B left for Westchester airport and flew to Illinois for some much needed tune up time with Coach Carl. For six hours yesterday in the 92 degree midwestern summer heat Carl put Humpty Dumpty back together again. It is incredible how far off a players swing can go after just a month. This is why the tour pros actually travel with their coaches. Playing at this level takes extraordinary precision and the slightest deviation has catastrophic results. Jordan will have another six hours with Carl today before flying back to Bedford this evening.

Tomorrow and Sunday she will have light practices at Rockrimmon, rehydrate and rest. While she is doing that, SuperMom will be hard at work unpacking, doing laundry, shopping prepping and re-packing for an early morning Monday departure to Lake Placid where Jordan will compete in the NY Junior Amateur. 40 of NY’s top Juniors will battle it out over 54 holes and three days. There will be a cut after 36 to the top 24 for Friday, the final round. B will have practice rounds on Monday and Tuesday with the first official day of competition being Wednesday. SuperMom promises to send plenty of live pictures of the action and we will share along with the leaderboard and T-times when they are released.

That’s all for now. Apologies for falling behind in the blogging this past week. Thank you to everyone who is following and supporting Jordan. It is extremely humbling to see how many people notice when we don’t blog. We are so grateful to all of you who have chosen to be a part of Jordan’s journey.
