With a field of over 100 girls, a long fog delay, and almost the shortest sunlight day of the year, 18 girls still have not completed round one of the tournament that began yesterday. They will all go back to the hole that they left off on yesterday and complete their rounds at 7:30 this morning. Following that, the whole field will T off at 9:30 in a shotgun format (this is where each grouping will start from a different hole and play back to that hole)….at least that is what the announcement from the tournament director said. If we do the math, that does not seem possible but Julie and the B will see once they arrive this morning at Championsgate. One thing is for sure; with everyone arriving at the same time, it is going to be chaos! We will bring you updates as we have them but with the editorial department currently in Pound Ridge NY and the action happening in Orlando FL we must wait for reports from the field.
Jordan did get to finish her round and shot an 8 over 80 putting her in a tie for 37th place out 100 who are playing. The current leader is minus one (of those who has finished). 4 of the 18 who have yet to finish will probably end up behind Jordan when day one is finally tallied so she is probably going to stand at around 34th place going into round 2.
The B had a tough front shooting 7 over through 9 holes with 2 coming from a double bogey on 9 where she put one in the drink. Putting was the biggest weakness of the day where according to Carl at least 6 putts that were within 2 feet missed their mark. The back 9 on the other hand was great. Jordan went only plus 1 on the back including a birdie. Overall, 1 double, 7 bogeys, 9 pars and 1🐥. Jordan’s comment to Mom after the round, ”Can I just go play the front 9 again now? I know what I was doing wrong.” Judging by how she played the back 9, she is probably right. Interestingly enough, the back 9 at Championsgate National Course is much more difficult then the front according to Sarah Zheng.
A final note about the tournament; It is made up of girls from class of 2025 (Jordan) to class of 2021 or girls aged 14-18. After day one, B is sitting in 3rd place for the 14 year olds. Though Jordan will refuse to see it that way (she will never rationalize or try to make excuses) Carl forces us to put things in perspective to recognize the progress she is making.
Below is the sole image (a video) that was sent to the bureau yesterday for publication and it came from Coach Carl from warm up. DON’T shoot the messenger, complain to Caddy Mom who is live at the scene.
